About the Institute

The Maciej Nałęcz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established in 1975 and is the largest biomedical engineering centre in Poland.

The mission of IBIB PAN is to develop and implement new technologies, devices and theoretical tools supporting medical diagnostics or treatment, which aim to improve the long-term quality of life of patients suffering from chronic and lifestyle diseases. The research carried out at the Institute combines the achievements of engineering and natural sciences, becoming the basis for innovative solutions in the field of new biomedical technologies. In 2013, the Institute was awarded scientific category A by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The Institute also coordinates activities aimed at developing research and education in the field of biocybernetics and biomedical engineering, and runs doctoral studies. The Scientific Council of IBIB PAN is authorised to award doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in the discipline of biocybernetics and biomedical engineering.

The Institute comprises the following departments and laboratories:

Department I Hybrid and Analytical Microbiosystems

DEPARTMENT II Department of Biomaterials and Biotechnological Systems
