Awards and distinctions for scientific achievements

  1. M. Urbanowicz, PhD, DSc. - Laureate of the 2024 Scientific Award of the Division IV – Technical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences for a series of works on: novel bioanalytical tools matching bioreceptor size to analyte, based on nucleic acids, and the use of functional materials such as hyperbranched linkers and conductive, hydrophobic polymers for constructing stable and sensitive electrochemical biosensors.
  2. Anna M Stecka, PhD, DSc. – Recipient of the Gold ESAO PhD Award 2023 from the European Society for Artificial Organs for her PhD dissertation in the field of artificial organs and related areas of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine: Analysis and interpretation of diverse cardiopulmonary responses to therapeutic thoracentesis.
  3. Prof. P. Ładyżyński – Elected in 2022 as a member of the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE), affiliated with the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering, comprising around 200 distinguished scientists worldwide in biomedical engineering.
  4. Agnieszka Wencel, PhD, DSc – Honorable Mention in the Innovative Scientist category of the 14th “Innovator of Mazovia” competition for her dissertation on the influence of various culture substrates on human liver cells for bioartificial liver applications. Also nominated for the Personality of the Year 2022 – Science title by the editorial board of Polska Metropolia Warszawska..
  5. IBBE PAS – Winner of two prestigious awards in 2021 for the innovative dual-lung ventilator Ventil: 1. Economic Award of the President of Poland in the Research + Development category. 2. Polish Product of the Future Award (category: Higher Education and Science Institutions) by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) for innovation and public health impact during the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  6. L. Pstraś, PhD, DSc: Winner of the Gold PhD Award 2019 from the European Society for Artificial Organs.
  7. L. Pstraś, PhD, DSc: Recipient of the 2019 Board of Directors’ Award of the Biocentrum Ochota Institutes for his PhD dissertation on Mathematical modelling of cardiovascular response to haemodialysis.
  8. IBBE PAS – Honored with the Polish Innovation Award 2018 in the Innovative Institute category for R&D efforts and synergy between medicine, science, and technology. Awarded project: a mobile app for diabetes patients, developed under a NCBiR grant led by Prof. Piotr Ładyżyński’s team.
  9. The consortium of which the Institute is a member was awarded the title of Laureate in the 3rd edition of the ‘Leader of Innovation in Defence and Security – 2018’ competition organised by the PROMILITARIA Foundation, awarded for the project Development of ORTO-LBNP technology for research and training of Polish Armed Forces pilots in conditions of ischaemic hypoxia and orthostatic stress.
  10. J. Motyl, PhD, DSc – Prime Minister’s Award 2018 for outstanding researchers and artists for her PhD dissertation on sphingosine-1 kinase and sphingosine-1-phosphate in a Parkinson’s disease model.
  11. J. Poleszczuk PhD, DSc – Recipient of the R. Bartoszyński Fellowship 2018 awarded by the Mathematical Applications Center of IM PAN.
  12. J. Motyl, PhD, DSc: Also honored by the Board of Directors of Biocentrum Ochota Institutes. 
  13. J. Jankowska-Śliwińska – Recipient of the 2017 Special Award from Biocentrum Ochota for her PhD thesis on Electrochemical detection of psychoactive substances based on intercalation into DNA.

  15. Poleszczuk J. Roszkowiak Ł.: Scientific scholarships from the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young scientists. 2017
  16. Milej D.: Second Prize in the sixth edition of the ‘Innovator of Mazovia’ competition in the Innovative Young Scientist category for his work on ‘Assessment of cerebral blood flow using time-resolved fluorescence measurement during the influx and clearance of an optical contrast agent.’ 2014
  17. J. Jankowska-Śliwińska: Winner of a scholarship for doctoral students at the Ochota Biocentre, carrying out application-oriented research projects funded by OTT BioTech-IP, financed by the European Social Fund under the Human Capital Operational Programme (UDA POKL.08.02.01-14-041/09).
  18. Nalecz Institute of Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering Polish Academy of Sciences was honoured with the Prix Galien 2012 award in the first Polish edition of the prestigious international Prix Galien competition. The Institute was awarded in the category ‘Innovative Research’ for the development of an artificial respiratory and circulatory patient, carried out by a team led by Prof. Marek Darowski.
