IBIB PAN's participation in the first Healthcare Datathon

On 27–28 September 2025, representatives of IBIB PAN: Paulina DUDA, MSc, and Raman PASLEDNI, MSc, took part in Poland's first Healthcare Datathon event, organised jointly by MIT Critical Data, UCK Gdańsk and Roche Polska. In teams of several people, we worked on developing and testing metrics for assessing the quality of large language models (LLMs) in responding to questions about multiple sclerosis (MS). A tool to assist histopathologists in the analysis of virtual slides of breast cancer patients' tissues stained immunohistochemically using DAB and haematoxylin.

Project manager: Łukasz Roszkowiak, MSc Project funded by the National Science Centre as part of the PRELUDIUM competition UMO-2013/11/N/ST7/02797. What is the project about? Do you know what a pathologist does? They are very busy doctors who examine tissue samples, for example from a small lump that has been detected. Automated analysis of tumour microenvironment in triple negative breast cancer without complete pathological response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Predictive factor of relapse

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has a poorer prognosis than other breast cancer subgroups. Only about 50% of triple-negative breast cancers have a pathological complete response (PCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), and those without a complete response are six times as likely to relapse. The tumour microenvironment, which can clearly be modified by cytotoxic treatments, is a dynamic network involved in[ ... ].

SONATA Bis project – ‘Research on new sensitive layers for the detection of quorum sensing molecules’

Pseudomonas aeruginosa, also known as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, is a common bacterium that causes chronic hospital-acquired infections. One of the ways P. aeruginosa causes infection is through Quorum Sensing (QS). QS is the secret language of bacteria that use small molecules, called autoinducers, instead of words. Science for society, project entitled: ‘Local delivery systems for antibiotics to treat bone marrow and bone infections’

Osteomyelitis (OM - Latin for osteomyelitis) is an inflammation of bone tissue and bone marrow that is one of the most difficult bacterial infections to treat. The aim of the project is to obtain a carrier for two antibiotics - vancomycin and ciprofloxacin - for local drug delivery in the control of bone marrow and bone infection. A new approach is the use of organic-inorganic nano-flowers as a material mapping the structure of bone.

Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is the adjustment of a drug's dosage so that the concentration achieved is effective, while minimising side effects or toxicities.
