ORCID: <a href=\"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-8857-6754\">0000-0002-8857-6754<\/a><br>Ma\u0142gorzata Fereniec, Phd.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-custom-section light-grey\"><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research subjects:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"545\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/03_LAB_work_illustration_EN.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1227\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Our activities are interdisciplinary and cover the full path from the idea and development of a theoretical physical description through its hardware and algorithmic implementation and culminate in testing on an animal model and on healthy volunteers and patients in a clinical setting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-custom-section regular\"><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Selected examples of applications of ongoing research activities:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Non-invasive, optical devices based on near-infrared spectroscopy technique for the diagnosis of strokes, intracranial bleeding, intraoperative monitoring of cerebral oxygenation (e.g. carotid artery clog removal), detection of brain death, etc..\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-invasive imaging of cerebral cortex activity during movement or viewing of visual stimuli, also under oxygen deprivation or high g-force overload conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-invasive monitoring of muscle oxygenation during exercise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-contact, non-invasive monitoring of wound healing using the correlative speckle field imaging technique.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-invasive monitoring of cerebral flow by diffuse correlation spectroscopy technique.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optical measurement of systolic and diastolic blood pressure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tools for modelling light propagation in tissues that, when applied to a measurement method, allow for recovery of information on the oxygenation or blood supply of the tissue, e.g. \u201cParallel, multi-purpose Monte Carlo code for simulation of light propagation in segmented tissues\u201d (https:\/\/github.com\/swojtkiewicz\/mc_cuda_ompi) or \u201cTwo-layered blood-lipid phantom and method to determine absorption and oxygenation employing changes in moments of DTOFs\u201d (https:\/\/github.com\/asudakou\/Analyzing_TD-NIRS).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-block-custom-section light-grey\"><div class=\"container\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research field description:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Biomedical Optics Laboratory carries out research work in the field of medical diagnostic techniques based on phenomena related to the interaction of near-infrared light with tissues.
