The Laboratory for Processing and Analysis

of Microscopic Images

CITY Warsaw
POSITION Graduate Research Assistant, full time job
First Stage Researcher (R1)
SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINE biomedical engineering
KEYWORDS Digital pathology, computational pathology, machine learning, convolutional neural networks, image analysis, quantitative and qualitative assessment, cells’ movement and motility, cells’ culture grows

Description of research conducted in the Laboratory:

The Laboratory for Processing and Analysis of Microscopic Images conducts research in the field of processing and analysis of microscopic images and their sequences created in various types of microscopy. The images document the behavior or condition of medical and biological samples relevant to the medical research and practice. The analysis concerns both the quantitative description of cells and tissues, and their qualitative description - tissue architecture, cell dispersion or aggregation, as well as the description of the behavior and dynamics of cell growth in cell cultures. For quantitative analysis, the methods of object recognition, detection, and segmentation in the classic version, as well as the modern methods based on neural networks, are used. The results of our work support the physicians and biologists in the difficult time-consuming assessment of stained tissue sections or cell smears with automatic or semi-automatic methods of computational pathology.

Scope of the research to be carried out by the Employee

The candidate is obliged to undertake the following duties:

  1. participation in research on methods supporting the evaluation process of virtual slides constituting digital versions of stained tissue preparations in neoplastic and inflammatory diseases.
  2. developing methods of supporting physicians in the extraction of diagnostic, prognostic or predictive information in images.
  3. preparation data and conducting the learning process of explainable neural networks, preparation of software that performs inference along with the user interface and participation in the development of a large data set and in its statistical and correlation analyses.

The results of work have to be published and presented at scientific conferences.

The doctoral dissertation PhD has to be open in 2 years (time for the selection and formulation of the topic of work and agreement of cooperation with a medical center).

A candidate for the position of Graduate Researche Assistant should meet the following requirements:
