Description of research conducted in the Laboratory:

The Laboratory of Electrostatic Bioencapsulation Methods conducts research into the development of techniques for encapsulating biologically active, natural and synthetic substances such as drugs, functional proteins, cells and their collections for biomedical applications, using electrostatic methods. Among others, a method of one-stage encapsulation of live cells in hydrogel microspheres coated in semi-permeable membranes formed both from natural and from synthetic polymers has been developed at the Laboratory. Current work focuses on studying and developing an electrostatic method for manufacturing polymer mats to encapsulate the abovementioned substances, and to serve as a functional cell scaffolding made of synthetic polymers and biopolymers with various degradation times and porosity, during culture of cells. Also ongoing is research of the development and manufacture of semi-permeable capillary membranes that are stable or subject to partial degradation and biodegradation.

Scope of the research to be carried out by the Employee

Work to be carried out relates to research and development of applications
of biopolymers that allow encapsulation and/or immobilisation of natural biomolecules in mats, microcapsules and semi-permeable membranes, with particular emphasis on biocompatible materials. The techniques available in the Laboratory include electrostatic methods of forming microcapsules and mats, and the formation of flat and capillary semi-permeable membranes. The Laboratory has at its disposal a laboratory installation for weaving capillary membranes using the wet-phase inversion method that is unique in Poland.

A candidate for the position of Graduate Researche Assistant should meet the following requirements:


  1. Completed course of study in: chemistry, materials science, chemical, biomedical engineering or similar.
  1. MSc or MSc (Eng) degree

B.Scientific/professional accomplishments:

Publications are not obligated.


  1. Knowledge in the field of polymer chemistry and technologies required.
  2. Experience in laboratory work (manual skills).
  3. Ability to plan experiments and present results.

Additional requirements:

Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

English language knowledge sufficient to publish in this language.

Experience in using spectroscope and microscope techniques.

e. the list of national and international scientific societies and committees of which the candidate was or is a member,

f. the declaration of the candidate that in the event of winning the competition, IBIB PAS will be their primary place of work.
