Description of research conducted in the Laboratory:

  • Optimizing the mechanical ventilation of infants with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). The studies using Pediatric Respiratory Simulator, based on clinical and literature data; cooperation with the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Clinical Therapy of the Pediatric Hospital of Medical University of Warsaw.
  • Simulation studies using the device VENTIL for independent ventilation of the lungs; cooperation with the Clinical School of the Medical University in Lublin.
  • Use of a circulatory simulator for the examination of valvular heart diseases and aortic stenosis; cooperation with the Public Hospital in Zamość.
  • Construction of the measurement systems and measurements of physiological parameters in patients, also during medical procedures, and mathematical-physical and physiological analysis of the results, also with the use of computer models.

Scope of the research to be carried out by the employee:

  • Usefulness of the new lung ventilation non-homogeneity index and its relationship with important parameters of infant ventilation with isolated congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Continuation of the studies using pediatric respiratory simulator and clinical studies; cooperation with the Anesthesia and intensive Clinical Therapy Department of the Pediatric Hospital of Medical University of Warsaw.
  • Development of a multifunction ventilator with automatic optimization of ventilation – establishing a partnership with Twente University.

A candidate for the position of Adjunct should meet the following requirements:

Education: higher education, degree of doctor of technical sciences in biomedical engineering or other similar discipline.

Scientific/professional achievements:

  • Publications from the JCR list with the total impact factor equal to at 6 or more, in the discipline of biomedical engineering, including at least one on the support of diagnosis or therapy of the respiratory or circulatory system.


  • Scientific research work, including study planning, laboratory experiments, including simulation.
  • Experience in formulating scientific aims and research issues.
  • Ability to select an appropriate methodology, statistical method for elaboration study results.
  • Ability to present research and its results (a scientific publication or conference presentations in which the candidate is the first author).

Additional requirements:

  • Knowledge of English in speech and writing
  • Teamwork skills
  • Ability to establish scientific-research cooperation.
  • Be prepared to applicate for research development funding.

d. the list of projects implemented in scientific cooperation with foreign countries,

e. the list of national and international scientific societies and committees of which the candidate was or is a member,

f. the declaration of the candidate that in the event of winning the competition, IBB PAS will be their primary place of work.
